The Magpies youngsters showed why they are the reigning league champions at the Avenue Stadium yesterday evening with a comprehensive display against a spirited visiting side from their close neighbours south of the Ridgeway.

Dorchester took 2 goals to nil lead into the second half, courtesy of a brace of goals from striker Joe Smith, then added a third from Connor Ford late in the second half.

Joe Smith nets the first goal for the Magpies.

Smith adds his second goal.

Connor Ford turns away after lashing the ball into the Terras’ net.

The game was always competitive, but never boiled over..

The game started at race pace, but the fans had to wait until the 37th minute for Smith to open the scoring placing the ball to the left of the Weymouth keeper and into the net.

The Dorchester players had only just finished celebrating Smith’s strike when he pounced again this time on a mistake in the centre of the Terras’ defence where he robbed the ball from a Weymouth defender to sprint towards the the visitors goal and convert his second effort with a carbon copy of his first.

Like any derby the game had a competitive edge, and the referee was kept busy issuing yellow cards and mid-way through the second half it threatened to boil over, but thankfully the officials kept control and normal service was soon restored.

The only flash point of the local derby but the officials sorted it out and normal service was soon restored.

It was end to end play for most of the 90 minutes, but the Dorchester defenders were always in control and for the entire game the Magpies goalkeeper was kept busy, but he never had to make a goal saving stop.

Then in the 82nd minute and from a free kick on the left the ball flew into the Terras’ penalty area for substitute Connor Ford to pounce and lash the loose ball into the back of the Weymouth net and secure the win for his team.
