Keep Radio 106.3 FM Weekend Sport Preview 10/11/02/2024.

Keep Radio 106.3 FM Local Sports Bulletin 5 40 pm on Robbie Mott’s Drive Time afternoon show, Monday & Friday:

Weymouth could make it 5 National League South wins on the bounce on Saturday when they travel to the Melbourne Stadium to lock horns with Chelmsford City.

The Clarets are currently in 4th place in the league table, winning 4 of their last 6 outings, but losing last time out and drawing the match before that, whereas the Terras are on a run of form at present winning all of their last 4 matches.

Ten league places and 10 league points separate the two clubs.

When Chelmsford travelled to Weymouth in August last year, they returned to Essex with all 3 league points after beating the Terras by 3 goals to nil with a performance that our Man at the Match described at the time as the best away performance that he had seen at the Bob Lucas Stadium for a long time, but it’s a very different Weymouth team now so it is a very difficult result to predict.

In the Southern Premier League Dorchester host Gosport Borough at the Avenue Stadium with the Boro’ in 4th place and chasing promotion while the Magpies are still deep inside the drop zone so 3 league points would be very welcome to relieve some of the relegation fears from the Magpies’ fans.

In the Wessex League Portland United visit United Services Portsmouth while Bridport head West to Cornwall to play Newquay in a Southwest Peninsular League Cup tie.

In the local rugby, this weekend was originally a rest weekend, however recently the RFU re-nominated it as match weekend in order to play games postponed from earlier in the season due to the inclement weather.

Weymouth head coach Rich Bament said, “We have tried to play this match twice already, but now we have no option but to concede”.

“We have players attending the England Wales 6 Nations game at Twickenham and others have organized work commitments, I agreed with the Combe Down coach to play the game on Friday evening, but the Combe Down floodlit pitch has been booked by their women’s team and due to our limited squad of players I feel we can’t field a team on Saturday that would truly represent Weymouth & Portland Rugby Club and Southern Counties League rugby so it left me with no other option but to call the game off and concede the points”.

On Saturday the Dorset & Wilts women’s squad have their second selection / training session of the season at North Dorset rugby club.

On Friday evening Weymouth & Portland’s social xv entertain their Swanage & Wareham counterparts at their Monmouth Avenue ground kick off 7 30pm.

On Sunday Bridport Ladies football team play Porlock Ladies at home kicking off at 2 00pm.
