On Saturday Weymouth Football Club’s Senior Men’s team currently just 1 place above the National League South drop zone play hosts to basement club Dover Athletic in what can only be described as a 6 point must win clash.

In the Southern Premier League Dorchester first team, who are in the same position as the Terras, visit second placed Chesham so the Magpies will have to be at their very best if they are to return to Dorset with any points to show from this fixture.

Also, on Saturday Portland United host Christchurch at Grove Corner for a Wessex Premier League match.

On Boxing Day, Weymouth visit the Optima Stadium to play Weston Super Mare while Dorchester entertain Poole Town at the Avenue Stadium.

This will be the first time the Magpies manager Tom Killick has faced the Dolphins since they parted company earlier in the current season.

Bridport entertain Axminster at St. Mary’ s Stadium in a Southwest Peninsular East match.

Also on Boxing Day, the annual Nurdling tradition takes place on the Old Roman Road in Upwey at around 11 00 am near the Ship Inn where 2 teams, Red and Blue attempt to out-nurdle each other. The rules are somewhat fogged in the passage of time, but local builder Dave Squibb will be there to keep order over the proceedings.

There are claims this game is so ancient it dates to pre-Roman Britain. There are references to it being played as far back as 1602 in Cornwall. Another account says it was also played in Dorset in 1583.
