Weekend Sports Preview:

It’s back to National League South action for Weymouth’s senior men’s team at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday when they host 12th placed side Chippenham. 

The Terras who currently lie in 18th place, had a good 3 goals to 1 result away against Highworth Town last weekend in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup that has seen them draw Bath City at home on Saturday the 30th of September in the 3rd qualifying round. 

Dorchester who have been inactive for a fortnight are also at home and welcome Didcot Town to the Avenue Stadium for a Southern League fixture. 

In the FA Vase Portland United travel to Wincanton, but Bridport have to wait until Tuesday evening for their next Southwest Peninsular League East game at St Mary’s against Bishops Lydeard. 

On Sunday also at the Bob Lucas Stadium Hamworthy United play Larkhall Athletic also in the FA Vase kick off 3 00pm. 

In the local rugby Weymouth & Portland entertain Sherborne, Dorchester visit Avonvale and Swanage & Wareham play North Dorset at Bestwall Park Wareham, all in the Tribute Southern Counties League. 

In the Tribute Dorset & Wilts Leagues Blandford play Bridport at Larksmead and Dorchester second team have a local derby against visitors Puddletown.   

On Sunday at St Mary’s Bridport ladies take on Pen Mill Ladies reserves, kicking off at 2 00pm. 

Blasts from the Past. 

Danny Ings playing for Dorchester when on loan from Bournemouth against Maidenhead, he then went on to play for Burnley, Liverpool, Southampton, Aston Villa and is currently at West Ham .

Wes professional football career nearly came to an abrupt end when he underwent an operation to remove a tumour from his spine he then went on to make a full recovery and play professionally for Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Yeovil.

Neil Webb in charge of Weymouth in 1997 he played a total of 176 games for Nottingham Forrest scoring 50 goals, 75 matches for Manchester United scoring 8 goals and won 26 England caps netting 4 times.
