Bill Beaumont County Championship Division 3 Pool 2.

Dorset & Wilts 68 v Buckinghamshire Nil.

Current holders of the championship shield Dorset and Wilts tallied up 68 points in quick succession with their visitors failing to trouble the young lad operating scoreboard.

Last Saturday at North Dorset against Berkshire it was the Counties who trailed by 14 points to nil after 10 minutes of the game had elapsed, however at Devizes they reversed that score line taking control almost from kick off until full time only letting their steely grip on proceedings slip for a 10 minute period in the second half when Bucks. managed to win some ball, but the Dorset and Wilts  defence, held firm and kept Bucks out.

First half tries from number 8 Steve King, followed by prop Tom Napier and third from lock Declan Foley with fly half Sam Baker converting twice saw an end to the first quarter with the Counties 19 points to nil to the good.

Skipper Gavin Ougan  chipped in with a fourth try then scrum half Owain Hire  added a fifth with Baker converting both to make the score 33 points to nil in favour of Dorset & Wilts at the break.

Immediately following the restart replacement Harry Leadbetter crossed the whitewash closely followed by hooker Gareth Davis.

The visitors then put pressure on the Counties scrum and managed to win some ball, however although pegged back inside their own half committed tackling ensured that their line remained intact and the Bucks heads dropped and normal service soon resumed.

During the third quarter a raft of substitutions were made by both sides, however the match administrators had failed to keep a grip on the situation until an eagle eyed touch judge spotted that Bucks had 16 players out on the park, this was resolved and as the visitors had not managed to score during this period of play it was decided that no penalties were necessary.

Luke Rapson, Rob Best and Ross Williams all chipped in inside the final quarter touching down for a try apiece with Baker landing all second half conversions to complete the scoring.

Dorset and Wilts biggest test will come next weekend when they are on the road to lock horns with Middlesex who so far have beaten Buckinghamshire by 26 points to 10, but lost away against Berkshire on Saturday by 28 points to 12.
