Weymouth & Portland Rugby Club Press Release.

08/03/2017.

Twickenham calls for the Seasiders tomorrow (Saturday 11/03/2017), but none of the Weymouth & Portland players have caught the eye of England coach Eddie Jones, however many of the lads have managed to get their hands on tickets for the Calcutta Cup clash between old enemies England & Scotland thus posing first team manager Vaughan Carter selection problems.

Carter said: “We are away at Lytchett Minster & I can only hope that Lychett are also missing players to Twickenham as I am expecting a very tough game against a side just 3 places below us in the league table & added to that our 2 try scorer from last week Chris Lewendon is ruled out with a shoulder injury”.

“Prop forward Dave Rawles comes back into the squad, but I am still scratching my head & waiting for some lads to confirm their availability before we can name a starting xv”.

The Seasiders second string are also on the road away at Fordingbridge to play the hosts second xv.

Carter added: ” Its still not too late to enter the club’s next season’s £100.00 shirt sponsorship draw that will be held before the home game against Dorchester in a couple of weeks time”.

Recently Weymouth & Portland under 13 squad took part in a 3 way tournament against teams from Grove & Salisbury rugby clubs, they won both of their matches scoring a total of 10 tries and conceding none.

Club chairman Ian McMillan said: “We played some excellent rugby & were worthy winners, the lads done good”.
